The Bible is pretty unclear on whether it’s good to be wise or not. But suppose you do want to be wise. What’s the first thing you need to do? The Bible claims multiple times that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge.
But there’s another verse that tells you how to get started on the path to wisdom, and this verse doesn’t even mention God. Instead, it says that the beginning of wisdom is simply to get wisdom.1 There’s also a verse that says the fear of the Lord is a consequence of wisdom, rather than the cause.
Job, on the other hand, says only God knows the way to wisdom and understanding. Job speaks the truth about God, so those other people claiming to know the way to get wisdom must be wrong.
