According to Paul’s description of love, love does not envy. But according to Song of Songs, love’s burning jealousy is as strong and unyielding as the grave. The Bible also says that God is love, and God is jealous, so love must be jealous.
(Technically, jealousy is how you feel about things you have and don’t want to lose to someone else, and envy is how you feel about things other people have that you want. But when God lost his people to other gods, he still wanted them for himself. That makes him guilty of both jealousy and envy. So if God is love, love does envy.)
