The Bible says shortly before the soldiers crucified Jesus, they offered him some wine, which he refused.1 But the gospels disagree on what was mixed in with that wine.
According to Mark, it was mixed with myrrh (which was used as a painkiller). But according to Matthew, the wine was mixed with gall (which would just add to the torture).
(What’s really probably happening here is that Matthew, as usual, is copying from Mark, but occasionally changing things to make it seem like “prophecies” (irrelevant Old Testament passages taken out of context) are being fulfilled.)
